Wike Approves ₦70,000 Minimum Wage For FCT

Date:

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for staff of the FCT Administration, with the payment of three months arrears scheduled to begin in November 2024.

The Acting Head of the Civil Service for the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, made this known on Tuesday in a statement released by her Press Secretary, Ewhenji Anthony Odey, in Abuja.

Mrs. Adayilo highlighted the move as part of the Minister’s dedication to improving the welfare of workers and motivating them to deliver on key developmental goals. She stated:
*”This gesture will inspire staff to actively support the Minister in realizing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”*

The statement also praised Wike for his consistent approval of staff allowances and claims, which it described as evidence of his commitment to ensuring a productive and satisfied workforce.

Labour groups and employees have lauded the initiative, viewing it as a progressive step in addressing the economic challenges faced by workers.

The implementation of the new wage and arrears underscores the FCT Administration’s leadership in prioritizing employee welfare while aligning with national directives for improved worker remuneration.
