Speed Darlington Granted Bail After Nearly a Month in Custody

Date:

  • Rapper’s arrest linked to feud with Burna Boy over controversial remarks
  • Darlington vows to continue criticizing Burna Boy despite legal battles

Speed Darlington, the controversial Nigerian rapper, has been granted bail after spending almost a month in police custody. His lawyer, Stanley Alieke, confirmed the news via Instagram on Monday, stating, “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” though no further details were provided.

Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. The arrest followed an alleged verbal altercation with Afrofusion star Burna Boy, which stemmed from Darlington’s outspoken criticism of the Grammy-winning artist. The rapper had previously condemned Burna Boy for his ties to U.S. music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing serious allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Deji Adeyanju, another lawyer representing Darlington, suggested that Burna Boy was behind the arrest, though no official statement from Burna Boy has been made on the matter.

Despite the legal setback, Darlington remains defiant, vowing to continue his criticism of Burna Boy. “I’ll keep speaking the truth about Burna Boy and hold him accountable for his actions,” Darlington said in a previous statement.

Before the bail decision, Adeyanju assured the public that Darlington would either face arraignment or be released within 48 hours. “Justice may take time, but it will always prevail,” Adeyanju added, referring to the court’s decision to grant bail.
