- Governor celebrates Lagos State workers’ dedication, reaffirms commitment to staff welfare.
In a commendable gesture, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday honored six outstanding civil servants with brand-new cars, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the state’s public service.
The awards were presented during the Governor’s Lunch With Outstanding Officers at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Ikeja. Sanwo-Olu praised the honourees for their unwavering dedication and resilience, which he said have propelled Lagos to the forefront of civil service excellence in Nigeria.
Addressing attendees, the governor said, “Let it be said that we’re actually the best out of all the states in the country. So, we don’t mince words when we say that we are the best civil servants in the country.”
Sanwo-Olu further emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in public service, adding, “The reward for hard work is more work.”
The event, which saw 210 civil servants—comprising 117 senior and 93 junior officers—nominated for recognition, culminated in six individuals emerging as the most outstanding. Initially, five cars were reserved for senior officers through a raffle draw. However, when only one female officer was selected, the governor intervened to ensure gender balance by adding another female winner.
Junior officers were not left out, as five of them received cash prizes totaling N5 million.
Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, lauded the governor for his consistent efforts in prioritizing staff welfare. Agoro also highlighted Sanwo-Olu’s approval of a 13th-month salary equivalent to 100% of basic pay and the implementation of the new minimum wage.
This recognition event underscores the state government’s commitment to rewarding excellence and motivating its workforce to sustain the culture of hard work and dedication.
