Rufai, Abati Offer Contrasting Views on Tinubu’s Media Chat

Date:

  • Rufai Criticizes Lack of Clarity on Key Policies and Government Actions
  • Abati Praises Tinubu’s Composure and Calls for Regular Media Engagements

Arise News journalists Oseni Rufai and Dr. Reuben Abati have expressed contrasting views on President Bola Tinubu’s recent media chat.

Rufai criticized the session, stating that the president failed to provide clear answers on key issues such as fuel subsidies, inflation control, and foreign exchange policies.

He noted that Tinubu did not acknowledge the continuation of subsidy payments earlier in the year and lacked a concrete plan to reduce inflation, offering only vague references to increased agricultural production.

Rufai also highlighted contradictions in Tinubu’s stance on reducing government costs while maintaining a large cabinet, and his inability to effectively communicate tax reforms, particularly regarding VAT.

In contrast, Dr. Abati, who moderated the media chat, commended the president’s composure and willingness to engage without pre-set questions.

He revealed that the media team did not submit questions in advance, and Tinubu appeared relaxed and confident throughout the session.

Abati recommended that such interactions become more regular, noting that the president seemed well-prepared and open to discussing national issues.
