Attempt to declare Saraki acting President fails at SenateBy Yemi Itodo on July 4, 2017
What seems like a drama ensues today as Senate resumes plennary after 3 weeks break, as senators pronounced Senate President Bukola Saraki acting predsident of the Nigeria.
It all started when Eyinanya Abaribe, Senator representing Abia South raised the motion that both President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo are out of the country at the moment.
This was followed by counter motion that, as Senatore Kabiru Marafa sited Senate standing order 53 rule 4 to support his motion that since Senate president is number 3 citizen, whereas president and vice president are not around, Senate president could fill in as Acting President of the country.
But Senate President did not allow for seconding or any other comments, despite agitations from senators to support the motion as he quickly ruled out Senator Marafa.
‘Out of order”, said the Senate President.
