Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has been criticised by the senators for questioning their constitutional jurisdiction in confirming appointees nominated by the executive.

The upper chamber legislators also expressed their displeasure over the executive refusal to substitute Ibrahim Magu as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), after the Senate had rejected him twice.

Senate President Bukola Saraki also said Mr. Osinbajo must retract his comment that dismissed the senators’ power to confirm nominees.

Afterwards the senators downplayed Osinbajo’s request to confirm Lanre Gbajabiamila as Director General, National Lottery Commission, that the request should not bet treated.

APC Zamfara West Senator, Sani Yerima is of this opinion that the nomination should be jettisoned.

Also reacting to the issue, Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, said: “The Acting President need to respect the laws and constitution made by National Assembly when it comes to nominees confirmation.

“Acting President should suspend every matters relating to nominees confirmation”, Mr. Melaye added as contained in live tweet of the Senate official Twitter handle.

And indeed, all nominations forward by Mr. Osinbajo for confirmation hearing has been put on hold, pending all controversies relating to Senate’s power of confirmation is resolved.
