Katsina State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Faruk Lawal, has declared his interest to vie for the state governorship seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lawal said this when he briefed newsmen on Thursday in Katsina, saying that he took the decision after series of consultations with friends and political associates.

He said that leadership was a challenging tasks with heavy responsibilities.

“I am happy today that the coalition of youths under three umbrellas called on me to declare my intention for the Katsina State governorship seat in the 2023.

“You are all witnesses to the reason why they asked me to contest,” Lawal said.

He said that the call for him to join the governorship race was based on his numerous achievements in the service of the state.

“My first assignment when I became a special adviser to the governor on Banking and Finance, was to close 232 bank accounts belonging to MDAs in Katsina State that were never reported to us as a government when we came on board in 2015.

“And the balances as of that time accruing to these 232 accounts was in the excess of N4 billion.

“There was no mention of these funds we took over. The official document handed over to the administration in 2015 officially submitted 29 accounts,” Lawal said.

He said that the government closed the accounts and the balance was transferred to the consolidated revenue fund account of the government for developmental projects in the state.

The youths under the auspices of Nigerian Youths Congress on Thursday presented a letter to Lawal, asking him to join the 2023 governorship race.

The youths said their decision was due to his economic-driven strategies that had enhanced internal revenue generation in the state.
