Until now, President Muhammadu Buhari has kept mum on the trending national discuss bordering restructuring Nigeria to mirror the old regional system and Federalism system of government.
But on Friday, Buhari’s position was unveiled by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, pointing that peace is very much needed in Nigeria for everyone to go about his or her businesses. He said that is the focus of the President rather than restructuring.
Mr. Garba said, “Everyday we read one communique or resolution from one group or the other asking government to review the constitution, restructure.
“First of all, we need peace in Nigeria. Without peace, there will not be development or progress. Ordinary Nigerians want peace so that they can go about their lawful activities.
“Ordinary Nigerians want food to eat. It is not constitutional review and restructuring that will put food on the table.
“It is better economy and this is what the President is doing, trying to ensure that the resources in the country are very well managed.
He made the statement while receiving Northern Christians and Muslim clerics who visited the Presidential Villa in a bid to declare their solidarity for Buhari administration.
The delegation under the aegis of the Northern Inter Faith and Religious Organisations, was led by Bishop Edward Chanami, urging religious institutions to intensify prayers for the successes of the troops fighting the Boko Haram sect in the North East.
In their interaction, Garba further said that the period is over of those few elites who have pocketed country’s resources and shared it among themselves.
“The President will make sure that whatever is available to the people of this country, goes around the country and is evenly distributed”, presidential spokesperson said.
