A 21-year-old man, Victor Ambeyi, has been arrested for the brutal murder of his employer, 78-year-old Catherine Waceke Kimotho, in Nairobi’s Kasarani area.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ambeyi attempted to cover up the crime by concealing Kimotho’s body, wrapped in a blanket, in a septic tank on her property.

Kimotho was reported missing on Saturday, with her family growing concerned when repeated attempts to reach her by phone failed. On Sunday evening, detectives found her body submerged in the septic tank, with visible head injuries suggesting blunt-force trauma.

Following the discovery, a team led by Kasarani DCIO Justus Ombati, along with Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau officers, tracked Ambeyi to his cousin’s home in Kinoo, Nairobi, where he was hiding. Both Ambeyi and his cousin, Collins Seda Wanjau, were taken into custody.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ambeyi, who had been working for Kimotho as a casual laborer for just one month, admitted to attacking her after a dispute over payment.

During the investigation, police also arrested 22-year-old Benjamin Kimani Mwaura in Githurai 44, where Kimotho’s mobile phone was recovered at a repair shop he owns.

The three suspects are now being held at Kasarani Police Station and are scheduled for arraignment as detectives continue their probe into the motive behind the killing.
