World’s oldest conjoined twins die together at the age of 68

The world's oldest set of conjoined twins, Ronnie and Donnie Gaylon, 68, died on July 4, in their hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Ronnie and Donnie Galyon have been turning heads since they were born on October 28, 1951 to parents Eileen and Wesley Gaylon, who were not expecting twins, much less conjoined twins. They were born healthy, weighing 11 pounds, 11.5 ounces, but they spent the first two years of their life in the hospital as doctors struggled to figure out a way to safely separate them. When they were told there was no guarantee that both boys would survive the surgery, Wesley and Eileen refused to operate on their sons. For 68 years, the brothers lived face-to-face, fused from the sternum to the groin with one set of lower digestive organs. They were each born with separate hearts and stomachs and had their own set of arms and legs.

COVID-19: 21 patients discharged in Osun, records 13 new cases

The Osun government says it has recorded 13 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the state to 178. Dr Rafiu Isamotu, the State Commissioner For Health, in a statement in Osogbo on Monday, said 21 patients were also discharged from isolation centre after they tested negative twice to the virus. Isamotu said the new cases were from contacts of previous confirmed cases in the state. The Commissioner appealed to residents of the State to always observe all the precautionary measures laid down by the government against the spread of the virus. Isamotu said with the new cases, the number of confirmed cases in the state had risen to 178 with 87 active cases. “With the new confirmed cases, the number of active cases as at today, July 6, is 87. ” We have 178 confirmed cases, out of which the state has successfully treated and discharged 84 patients with seven deaths recorded,” Isamotu said.

Nigerian Government worried on increasing Coronavirus among top government officials

The Federal Government has expressed concern over the high rate of positive cases of the coronavirus disease, especially among top government officials. Mr Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, raised this concern at the 49th joint national briefing of the taskforce on Monday in Abuja. According to Mustapha, this has a direct impact on governance and security of the nation. “We urge that vigilance and care should be exhibited by all Nigerians, irrespective of status. “This virus does not discriminate and the PTF shall keep sustaining its sensitisation messaging,’’ he said. The SGF said that as the nation progresses into the second phase of the eased lockdown, the national response continues to escalate its level of vigilance and monitoring, especially as government ease restrictions in more sectors, including those with potentials for large gatherings and/or interactions between groups of people. “We are conscious of the fact that this could be misinterpreted to mean that the war against COVID-19 is over. “Let me emphasise that decision for further relaxation was cautiously taken by government to balance lives and livelihood.’’ He noted that the rising global and domestic statistics of cases and fatalities have shown that COVID-19 had not given any relaxation, thus the nation could not afford to slow down and must never compromise. “Let us continue to learn from the history of pandemics by avoiding the mistakes of 1918. “The PTF calls on all Nigerians to also remain vigilant and this call is underscored by global and national developments in the last one week, especially throughout the weekend. “In the last one week, we have witnessed a resurgence in countries that were noted as having successfully contained or containing the spread of the virus. “The situation in Beijing and the United States should inform our...
