Benue: Gov Ortom’s wife, son test positive for COVID-19

Eunice Ortom, wife of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has tested positive for COVID-19. Mrs. Ortom in a statement on Friday confirmed that her son and some of her staff also tested positive. She said she has since gone into total isolation and has urged people who had contact with her in the last two weeks to get tested for the disease. “A few moments ago this evening, I received my result from the tests earlier carried out on me by NCDC personnel on routine screening at the Government House, Makurdi which returned positive. I, my son, and some staff are COVID-19 positive. “We have from this moment, gone into total isolation as required by the NCDC protocol and would immediately begin the management and treatment as advised by medical experts,” she added. The governor’s wife stressed that CIVID-19 is not a death sentence, adding that everyone should be responsible for their actions to keep others safe.

Breaking: Kwara governor reshuffles cabinet

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Friday announced a minor cabinet reshuffle involving five commissioners who are to move from one ministry to the other. Those affected are the Commissioner for Communication Olanrewaju Murtala who moves to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; and Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Harriet Adenike Afolabi Oshatimehin who goes to the Ministry of Communications, according to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye. The statement said the Commissioner for Environment Architect Aliyu Mohammed Saifudeen switches to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development; Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development Hajia Aisha Ahman-Pategi moves to the Ministry of Special Duties; while the Commissioner for Special Duties Funke Juliana Oyedun goes to the Ministry of Environment.

Benue University VC tests positive for Coronavirus

Benue State University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Msugh Hembe has tested positive for Coronavirus. Hembe who confirmed this in a post he shared on Facebook, directed all staff of the university and close associates to undergo Coronavirus test and also to isolate themselves. He wrote in the Facebook post; “On Monday, 29th June, 2020, my test result for COVID-19 returned positive. “I have been in isolation since I found out on Monday about my positive exposure to the virus. “Staff of Benue State University and close associates are advised to check themselves, isolate and be pragmatic. He warned everyone to take responsibility, adding that “the virus doesn’t move; we move it. Take responsibility.”

Akwa Ibom lifts ban on weddings and burials

The Akwa Ibom State government has lifted the ban on weddings and burials which was imposed in March following the outbreak of Coronavirus. Residents of the state who wish to organise funeral ceremonies and weddings in the state, were however asked to follow strict guidelines. Governor Emmanuel Udom who made the announcement said; “If you are doing funeral in an open space like a field in a primary school you must not have more than 50 people. We are not forcing you to do the burial, but if you must do it, you must do it within our guidelines. Not more than 50 people and you must adhere to all our guidelines which was drafted by the Christian Association of Nigeria. “They (people attending the burial) must all wear facemask, have hand sanitisers, (and adhere to) everything that has been outlined by CAN. “If you are doing the burial inside the church, people inside should not be more than 30." Udom further disclosed that monitoring teams would be dispatched to ensure strict compliance with the guidelines. He also urged Pastors to help in the implementation of the guidelines to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the state. He said; “Please we don’t want anybody to expose himself or his own family. If you must go out, wear a facemask. If you don’t feel like wearing mask, please stay at home. A lot of people are asymptomatic to this and they keep infecting other people without knowing. And we don’t want this to continue." On managing Coronavirus, the Governor added; “Some of the drugs, we are running out of stock. And how to replenish the stock we don’t know because a whole lot of them are not manufactured here in Nigeria. “I don’t want us to get to a point where we are overwhelmed. “As I am talking, I am yet to...
