In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Bishop Shina Olaribigbe of Rapture Empowerment International, Osogbo, was tragically stabbed to death early Thursday while attempting to mediate a dispute between an estranged couple.

The incident occurred at the BCGA area of Osogbo, where the late clergyman often helped resolve disputes. According to sources, the wife involved in the altercation was a member of Olaribigbe’s congregation and served as an interpreter in the church.

A History of Discord

Reports indicate that the couple, who have a history of frequent disputes, lived apart despite not being legally separated. While the specifics of their latest argument remain unclear, the husband reportedly visited his estranged wife’s residence and found Olaribigbe there, an encounter that escalated into violence.

A source close to the church disclosed, “The pastor was at the wife’s residence to check on her health, as she had been unwell. The husband arrived unexpectedly, became enraged, and stabbed the bishop in the chest. He died instantly.”

Both the husband and wife were arrested and are currently being held at the Dugbe Police Division in Osogbo. Olaribigbe’s body has been deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital morgue.

Police Investigation

The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident. Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola stated, “The pastor often mediated disputes between the couple. On this occasion, the husband arrived to find the pastor in the wife’s room and, acting on suspicion of an affair, stabbed him multiple times. The pastor succumbed to his injuries on the spot.”

Community in Mourning

The death of Bishop Olaribigbe has left his congregation and the Osogbo community in shock. Many have taken to social media to express their grief and disbelief.

A Facebook user, Oyeleye Isaac, mourned, “BREAKING AND VERY SAD NEWS, WE LOST ONE OF OUR HEROES, Bishop Dr. Olaribigbe Greatness. Why! Why! Why?” Another, Mr. Bimbo, lamented, “You called to wish me Happy Birthday yesterday.”

As investigations continue, the tragic incident has raised questions about the risks faced by individuals who attempt to mediate in domestic disputes, a sobering reminder of the volatility such situations can entail.
