NNPC Cuts Petrol Price to ₦965 as Competition Intensifies

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has reduced the pump price of petrol to ₦965 per litre at its retail outlets in Abuja, a drop from the previous ₦1,030 per litre.

This is the second price cut by NNPC in just two weeks, following a prior reduction from ₦1,060 per litre. The move is seen as part of the national oil company’s response to growing competition from Dangote Refinery’s products.

A visit to NNPC retail stations in Abuja’s Central Area and Nyanya suburb confirmed that the new pricing is already in effect.

Motorists React Positively, Call for Further Reductions

The latest price reduction has been met with optimism by motorists, who hope for even lower prices to ease the cost of living.

Mr. Adamu Shuaibu, a commercial driver on the Nyanya-Zuba route, shared his thoughts: “I noticed the new price yesterday. The government is trying, but they should do more. The price should return to ₦530 per litre so that the cost of other goods can decrease too.”

Similarly, Mr. Taofeek Adetunji, a private car owner, praised the price cut, attributing it to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms: “When the President promised his reforms would yield results, many doubted him. But now you can see it. We are optimistic that prices will keep dropping. Petrol is vital to the economy, and this reduction will soon reflect in the cost of goods and services.”

Both drivers urged the Federal Government to continue its efforts to make fuel more affordable for Nigerians.

With competition in the oil sector heating up, citizens are hopeful that sustained reforms will lead to even greater relief in the coming months.
