Chidimma Adetshina, Nigeria’s representative at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nigerians and Africans for their unwavering support, which propelled her to a historic second-place finish at Miss Universe 2024.

The grand finale, held at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Sunday morning, culminated in a nail-biting showdown between Adetshina and Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig. Ultimately, Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe 2024, succeeding last year’s winner, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

Following the competition, Adetshina took to Instagram to reflect on her journey, sharing her gratitude and the lessons she has learned.

“To Nigeria: THANK YOU is not enough for all the support you’ve shown. You picked me up when I was at my lowest,” she wrote. “There were moments I was ready to give up, but you became my strength and gave me a reason to fight.”

Adetshina extended her appreciation to the African continent, recognizing its collective support during her journey.

“To Africa: Thank you for your love and unity. While I represented Nigeria, Africa stood by me. This experience has shown me the power of unity and the beauty of celebrating one another.”

The beauty queen also emphasized that this accomplishment is not the end of her journey but the beginning of new opportunities to inspire and uplift others.

Adetshina’s historic achievement has been celebrated across Nigeria and the African continent, marking a proud moment for her nation on the global stage.
