Nigerian Army Promotes 108 Officers in Nationwide Elevation Drive

In a significant milestone, the Nigerian Army has promoted 35 brigadiers general to the rank of major general and elevated 73 colonels to brigadier general, demonstrating its commitment to bolstering leadership within its ranks.

In a statement on Friday, Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s director of public relations, announced the promotions, highlighting key officers who will assume strategic roles in military operations and administration.

Promoted Officers to Major General

Notable among the newly promoted major generals are:

  • A. Garba, Acting Provost Marshal.
  • U.M. Alkali, Deputy Chief of Administration at the Directorate of Veteran Affairs.
  • A.G.L. Haruna, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1, North-East Operation Hadin Kai.

Others include I.A. Ajose, Acting GOC 8 Division, O.A. Awolo, Director of Military Training at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and L.G. Lepdung, Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, among others.

Newly Elevated Brigadiers General

The colonels promoted to brigadier general include:

  • S.M. Iliya, Commander, 43 Engineers Brigade.
  • O. Igwe, Commander, 78 Supply and Transport.
  • C.I. Nwonyi, Commander, 81 Division Provost Group.

Additional officers such as A.S. Aliyu, T. Garba, and A. Musa will assume critical positions across various formations.

Chief of Army Staff Congratulates Officers

The Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, commended the promoted officers and their families for their dedication, urging them to exemplify leadership in their roles.

“Your elevation comes with heightened expectations. I urge you to adopt innovative approaches to leadership and redouble your efforts in addressing Nigeria’s pressing security challenges,” Oluyede stated.

Calls for Renewed Commitment

He emphasized the importance of upholding their oath of allegiance to the nation and remaining loyal to the constitution. “Your leadership is critical to our collective mission of ensuring peace and stability across the country,” he added.

Strengthening Leadership Amid Security Challenges

The promotion of these 108 officers is part of a broader strategy to enhance the Nigerian Army’s capacity to tackle rising security threats across the nation, from insurgency in the North-East to banditry and communal conflicts in other regions.

As the Nigerian Army continues to evolve, these promotions represent a commitment to not only professional growth but also the resolve to secure the nation in challenging times.
