Lagos begins training of LASDRI drivers
Lagos state has commenced training of the first batch of Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI).
The batch consists of 63 drivers and will go through the Mandatory Drivers Training and Recertification Exercise.
The measure is part of the plan to maintain safety and security by the operator of the Lagos Ride Taxi Scheme, “IBILE Holdings”.
Welcoming the drivers, the General Manager, LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, admonished them to see their participation in the Institute’s training programme as a golden opportunity to improve their driving skills and techniques.
The General Manager stressed that the training would expose them to recognition of more road signs, basic vehicle maintenance, road culture and sanity among the motoring public.
She said the Institute would also conduct eye-screening tests to know each participant’s vision status, saying that it is a prerequisite for recommendation as a good driver.
Tiamiyu stated that the ride-hailing taxi initiative, which was designed and operated on a lease-to-own basis, is a component of the State Government’s multi-modal transportation blueprint being executed under the Traffic Management and Transportation pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
She, however, implored the drivers not to see the vehicles leased to them as government property but as their own and must, therefore, be security conscious and protective of them as an investment.
Recall that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently launched the ride-hailing service taxi scheme known as “Lagos Ride” at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, with the roll-out of the first batch of 1000 brand new GAC automobiles.
The initiative is a partnership between Lagos State-owned IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors Company Limited, with the sole objective of providing new, clean, and reliable means of taxi movement across the metropolis at an affordable cost.
