The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, has pledged the support of the National Association of Christian Traditional Rulers of Nigeria(AOCTRON) to resolve intractable social challenges bedeviling the nation.
The paramount ruler, who is also the association’s National President and Chairman, Board of Trustees, stated this during a courtesy visit to Gov. Samuel Ortom at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
The Tor Tiv, who led other members of the association on the visit, said the association would work with governments at at all levels to find solutions to the variegated problems confronting the country.
According to the paramount ruler, the association is working to promote progress, peace, unity and development of the nation.
AOCTRON recently reconstituted its Board of Trustees (BOT) and appointed Ayatse as its new National President and Chairman.
Ayatse explained that as an association, they were determined to support government activities through their combined prayers and actions.
“This is an association of people with common faith who happen to believe in Christ to associate together, think together and see how they can support the progress, peace, unity and development of the nation from the context of their Christian faith.
“I believe that working together with others, both believers and people of other faith, joining hands together, we will support through prayers and actions, especially from the position of traditional rulers.
“We will unite and encourage one another and support relevant institutions, different religions, government, to ensure that the country is able to overcome her challenges,” he said.
The Tor Tiv said he accepted the responsibility to serve with humility, adding that he was looking forward for the support of the Benue Government and Christian Community in the state to succeed.
He described the appointment as an “honor and privilege” to serve his people and nation.
“We held a meeting last week to restructure the association and I was favoured to take charge of the leadership and given the responsibility to restructure and revive the association so that it will be able to meet its goals.
“I did not ask for this assignment. I did not lobby for this, I was only favoured by my colleagues to lead them at this point in time. It is a real privilege. This load is heavy, I want you (governor) to help me to carry it,”he said.
He commended the governor for earlier dedicating the State under his leadership to God, adding that his elevation was also because of the dedication of the State to God.
In his remarks, Gov. Ortom thanked members of the association for favouring the Tiv Paramount Ruler to lead them in the country.
Ortom also said that their decision did not came to him as a surprise because the Tor Tiv had earlier in life prepared himself for any given assignment in the country even before his enthronement.
“This is very new and special for the association to appoint one person to be their President and Chairman board of trustees,” he said.
He said the Tiv ruler would not disappoint his colleagues and the country in his new assignment.
