Man hangs himself in Kogi over non-payment of salaries, as wife birth triplets

A man identified as Edward Soje has hanged himself after the news of his wife giving birth to triplets was broken to him.

The incidence is not unconnected with non-payment of salaries in the state, as he first disappeared for a week after the his wife delivered before his lifeless body was found hanged on a tree on Saturday.

City of Lokoja was thrown into pandemonium after the discovery that the 54-year-old senior civil servant, who and his wife have been childless for 17 years committed suicide.

The deceased who is a Grade Level 16 Officer in the State Teaching Service Commission was reported to have left a suicide note for his wife before sojourning to Abuja, as state government is owing him 11 months’ salary.

The suicide note reads, “Psalm 121:3 says God will not suffer your foot to be moved. He that keepeth you will not slumber. Amen. You and the three boys, God Almighty will keep you prosperous. Amen. I love you.”

The incident has been confirmed by the Police PRO, William Aya, who said Soje’s body was found along barracks around 5.55pm last Monday October 16.

The police spokesperson added that information was received from the military intelligence office in the barracks, of which the police swifted into action to remove the corpse and deposited it to Federal Medical Centre morgue in Lakoja.
