President Salva Kiir of South Sudan declares State of Emergency

Salva KiirSouth Sudanese President, Salva Kiir, has declared a state of emergency in major parts of the country’s North-West.

The state of emergency which is supposed to last three months was announced in a statement broadcast on state TV. Although the reason for the emergency was not disclosed.

According to reports, tens of thousands of lives have been lost to the ensuing conflict in South Sudan and over 2 million displaced since 2013.

The last state of emergency was in 2014, promoted by war between rebels and government.

United Nations also reported that thousands of civilians have fled town of Pagak and its environs, escaping into Ethiopia borders. Aid workers could not stay as well as they are force to relocate.
