Boko Haram insurgents yesterday launched an attack on a Nigerian Air Force helicopter carrying personnel on medical outreach programme in Gwoza.
The helicopter was shot sporadically by the terrorists, with only one airman sustaining bullet wound but there was no loss of life.
The helicopter which departed from Maiduguri enroute the venue for the two day medical outreach in Gwoza was attacked by the insurgents.
Despite the attack the helicopter was able to make fulfill its mission to and from its destination for the outreach programme.
The Nigerian Airforce immediately scrambled a fighter plane to Bama and Gwoza proximity in order to eliminate the threat. This was later confirmed by the intelligent report that later surfaced that scores of Boko Haram terrorists were killed.
The raid and outreach at the location was successful.
This was part of the Nigeria Airforce humanitarian support for the Internally Displaced Persons in the North East, by conducting medical outreach.
