1.The National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has urged Gov. Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State to submit to the rule of law by allowing APC lawmakers who are majority to lead and pilot the affairs of Bauchi State House of Assembly.

Oshiomhole, who gave the advice on Friday while meeting with APC legislators from Bauchi State House of Assembly in Abuja, described democracy as a game of numbers, said that democracy must be governed by the rule of law.

2.President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, 2019, to further strengthen and boost the ongoing war against corruption within and outside Nigeria.

Mr. Ita Enang, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), who revealed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday, said the new law is meant to obtain from other countries, on reciprocal basis, mutual assistance in the prosecution of criminal matters including the location and identification of suspects, witnesses and other materials for prosecution of criminal matters.

3.The Coalition of United Political Parties CUPP, has lambasted the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, for “sacrificing competence” by withdrawing the appointment of Festus Adedayo as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity hours after the appointment was announced.

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesman, in a statement on Friday, condemned how Buhari government’s kitchen members, supporters and social media warriors allegedly on the payroll of the ruling APC and the presidency opposed the appointment.

4.The Kogi State High Court, sitting in Koton-Karfe, has ruled that Governor Yahaya Bello and the State House of Assembly jointly or unilaterally, cannot remove the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Nasir Ajanah, without recourse to the National Judicial Council (NJC).

In its ruling on Friday, the court also declared that the Chief Registrar of the State High Court held a statutory position as the accounting officer of the judiciary and was, therefore, not subject to the control and supervision of either the executive or the legislature.

5.President Muhammadu Buhari says the plan to ban the Almajiri system of education will not be immediate.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, in a statement on Friday, said Buhari was not in a hurry to make decisions on Almajiri.

6.The Federal Government has directed port health service officials and other relevant agencies at the points of entry to Nigeria to heighten surveillance towards ensuring that all passengers coming into the country are screened.

Mrs Boade Akinola, the Director, Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health, said that the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Abdulaziz Mashi, gave the directive in Lagos while inspecting health facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

7.Many churches in the Israeli city of Nazareth, have kicked against the planned visit of Nigerian televangelist and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet T.B Joshua.

According to an Israeli publication, Haaretz, Joshua’s planned visit has generated criticisms among residents and stakeholders, including church officials.

8.The Borno Police command on Friday, said they had arrested two “high profile’’ Boko Haram commanders believed to have participated in attacks on security locations in Nigeria and Cameroon.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mohammed Aliyu, said that one of the suspects, Ali Ibrahim, was arrested on Jan. 6, at about 1 p.m. by Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) personnel at Dikwa low-cost estate in Maiduguri metropolis.

9.The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it will probe the circumstances that made its lawmakers to vote against the directive to support Senator Ali Ndume and Hon. Mohammed Bago as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.

Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin, who disclosed this on Friday while briefing newsmen at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja, said, it was wrong for the lawmakers to go against the party’s directive adding that party supremacy would not be compromised as the PDP was the platform with which they secured the opportunity to represent the people.

10.Nigeria’s Super Eagles and their female counterparts, Super Falcons would be on national assignments today.
