1). Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has finally announced his exit from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Dogara, who made the announcement on Thursday while submitting his nomination form at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, explained that he decided to leave because the APC was not committed to keeping the promise it made to Nigerians at both state and federal levels.
2). Amaju Pinnick has been re-elected as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Pinnick recorded a landslide victory with 34 votes over his rivals – Aminu Maigari (8) and Taiwo Ogunjobi (2) on Thursday.
3). President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, announced the Director-General (DG) for his re-election bid in 2019. In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari named the Honourable Minister of Transport, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as the DG and to also double as the Secretary of his campaign organization.
4). Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the pact between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor campaign finances ahead of the 2019 election was part of federal government’s plan to weaken the opposition. Wike who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt, wondered why no APC has been probed since 2015.
5). The Nigeria Police on Thursday said they recovered $470.5m belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s Brass Liquefied Natural Gas hidden in some commercial banks in violation of the directives of the Federal Government on Treasury Single Account. The force disclosed that another N8.8bn belonging to the NNPC/LNG which was also not remitted to the TSA Account was equally recovered.
6). The Federal Government on Thursday redeemed its pledge of a house to the family of the late Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. James Ocholi.
The four bedroom terrace house is located inside Flower Gate Estate, along Apo Resettlement, Abuja.
7). Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has named Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and 58 other people, as members of his presidential nomination council ahead of the PDP presidential primaries. Announcing the membership of the council, the Director-General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization and former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel said that, “the work of this council – as the name connotes – is to mobilize PDP delegates from all the states of the country for Atiku to emerge as the presidential flag-bearer of our great party.”
8). The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, allegedly failed to participate in the mandatory National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC), despite graduating from the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) at age 25, report has revealed. Report said Shittu did not present himself for service after graduation and is yet to do so till date.
9). The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured the organised labour that the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage would conclude its negotiation before the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum. Ms. Amal Pepple, Chairman, Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.
10). The Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property has secured warrant of arrest against embattled Delta senator, Peter Nwaoboshi, for alleged conspiracy, diversion of public funds and official corruption. A Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, issued the warrant dated Sept.18 and signed by Akanni Olaide, the Chief District Judge II, FCT.
