Celta Vigo players celebrate as Neymar walks away

Barcelona, without talisman, Lionel Messi,  slumped to their second defeat of the season, losing  to Celta Vigo 3-4 in La Liga and blowing up the chance to zoom to the top of the table after Real Madrid were earlier  held by Eibar.

The trio of Pione Sisto, Iago Aspas and Jeremy Mathieu scored the first  three goals of Celta Vigo within eleven minutes in the first half  and  Pablo Hernandez added a winner on 77th minute.

Barcelona  responded in the second half, with a goal by Neymar and a brace  by Gerard Pique, one of the goals scored in the 87th minute, to reduce Celta Vigo’s lead.

Only Messi was missing in the MSN forward line-up, but the Catalans had to depend on Pique, a defender to salvage them from total humiliation.

Today’s defeat also mirrored Barcelona’s loss to the same team last season, when they were soundly beaten 4-1.

And coach Luis Enrique had premonitions about what laid in wait at Vigo, when he declared early on Sunday:

“We are well aware of the difficult last few games we have had against them. Celta are a demanding team to play against both with and without the ball.”

Celta are now  undefeated in five games and have garnered 10 points to stay 10th on the league table. And for the Catalans, the only thing they took away was Andres Iniesta’s milestone of 600 games played.

Barcelona with 13 points are fourth on the table, behind joint leaders Atletico Madrid and  Real Madrid who have 15 points and Sevilla with 14 points.

Real Madrid also scraped a 1-1 draw against Eibar today at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. A Gareth Bale  18th  minute goal  cancelled the goal by Fran Rico for Eibar in the sixth minute.

The match was the second draw by Madrid, in succession.

Atletico however spanked Valencia 2-0.
