The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command, has trained more than 400 officers in the act of carrying arms this year, Commandant Lawan Bashir-Kano said Thursday.

Mr. Bashir-Kano disclosed this during interactive session with journalists, noting that the corps was poised on getting rid of vandals and other criminal elements from the state.

He said the first batch of the arms-bearing personnel were trained earlier in the year in collaboration with the 177 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army.

“We are poised to tackle head-on the rising cases of vandalism, especially of public installations by deploying about 200 armed personnel.

“Although the cases have reduced drastically, it has not abated and that is why we are currently training another batch of 200 personnel in order to adequately man all public assets,” he said.

According to him, the intensive training will last for about six weeks where the personnel will be drilled physically and psychologically to bear arms.

The Corps boss also said that over 300 cases ranging on vandalism, theft, human trafficking and fraud have been recorded.
