The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been re-elected as the governor of Ondo State in the governorship election held on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lokoja, officially announced the results on Sunday in Akure.
According to Akinwumi, Aiyedatiwa secured a commanding victory with 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr. Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Mr. Neyo Adeyemi, came in third with 4,138 votes.
“I, Olayemi Akinwumi, certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2024 Ondo State Governorship Election held on November 16, 2024,” Akinwumi declared. “Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
A Peaceful Election Process
The election, which saw Aiyedatiwa defeating Ajayi Agboola, a former deputy governor during the first term of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, was contested by a total of 15 candidates across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Observers and officials praised the conduct of the election, which was notably peaceful and free of violence or reports of ballot snatching.

Aiyedatiwa’s re-election ensures continuity for APC’s governance in Ondo State. His administration has pledged to focus on development, infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for Ondo residents.
