The Kwara State Government has taken disciplinary action against a teacher accused of maltreating a youth corps member assigned to Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
In a joint statement by the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, the government announced the sanctions following the findings of an investigative panel.
The teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, was found guilty of misconduct, including fighting on duty, using foul language, insubordination, and disrespecting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform, which symbolizes national identity.
As a result, she has been demoted by two grade levels, transferred out of her current school, and directed to undergo counseling sessions.
“The State Government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise. We deeply regret the teacher’s actions and reassure the NYSC management that this behavior does not reflect the values of the state,” the statement read.
The government also urged all teachers to adhere strictly to public service rules and perform their duties with professionalism. It reiterated its commitment to providing training on teaching ethics and service procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
