Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, expressed immense joy as he welcomed his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, following the latter’s release from Kuje Custodial Centre on Friday, December 20.
The former governor, who is facing an N80 billion fraud charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was granted bail by Justice MaryAnne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja.
Bail Conditions and Release
Bello was released after fulfilling stringent bail conditions, which included: ₦500 million bond; three sureties owning property in prime Abuja areas such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro; Surrendering his passport and a restriction on travel outside Nigeria without court approval.
The court had initially denied Bello’s bail application but approved a fresh application on Thursday, December 19.
Charges and Allegations
Bello, along with two others, faces a 16-count charge involving money laundering, corruption, and criminal breach of trust during his tenure as Kogi State Governor. The accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
