Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has presented a proposed budget of N549 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, seeking its approval. Dubbed the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” the budget aims to bolster the wellbeing and prosperity of Kano’s residents.
Out of the proposed budget, N312 billion is allocated for capital expenditure, while N236 billion is designated for recurrent expenditure. Yusuf highlighted that the budget reflects a capital-to-recurrent spending ratio of 57% to 43%.
A significant portion of the capital expenditure, approximately N461 billion, is earmarked for Social and Economic Sectors. Education receives the largest share, with N168 billion (31% of the total budget), exceeding UNESCO and UN recommendations. Yusuf noted that these funds are intended to support policies and initiatives that enhance educational quality across all levels. The Health Sector will receive N90 billion, representing 16.5% of the budget.
Other allocations include N21 billion (3.83%) for Agriculture, N70 billion (12.87%) for Infrastructure Development, N23 billion (4%) for Security, Justice, and Emergency Services, and N27 billion (4.96%) for Water Supply and Rural Development.
Yusuf urged the Assembly to expedite the budget’s passage to ensure smooth implementation beginning in January. Speaker Jibrin Falgore pledged swift legislative action to support the governor’s initiatives in infrastructure, security, health, and education.
