The House of Representatives has directed its Committee on Power to investigate the frequent national grid implodes and give a report in three weeks or less.
This decision followed a motion of urgent national significance raised by Hon. Mansur Manu Soro (Bauchi, PDP) during the plenary session.
Hon. Soro expressed profound worry over the persistent grid disappointments, which have drove the whole country into power outage, deteriorating the economic challenges already faced by Nigerians.
Hon. Soro emphasized that a steady power supply is fundamental for driving economic growth and development in any country.
He noted that the national grid had imploded multiple times in 2024 alone, portraying what is happening as disturbing.
He stressed that states in the North West and North East regions have been passed on in murkiness because of the continuous power sector crisis, urging the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restore electricity to the affected areas.
The Hon. likewise brought up the disturbing truth that these grid breakdowns are happening even as the Minister of Power guarantees the general public of improved electricity supply—a commitment that prompted the government’s approval of increased electricity tariffs for Band A customers.
