Nigerian Govt releases N360m for free contraceptives

The Federal Government has released a sum of $1 million (N360.5m) to procure contraceptives in a bid to better quality family planning in Nigeria, Prof. Isaac Adewole the Health Minister said on Wednesday.

The minister also said the implementation plan to procure the contraceptives has been secured, following a presidential approval of the joint venture agreement between the Federal Government and May $ Baker for the production of local vaccines, which was constituted on January 19 to oversee the venture.

Adewole divulged this after the Federal Executive Council meeting to State House Correspondent at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, adding that Nigeria would start producing its vaccines in the next two years.

He further noted that the government was concluding plans to enrol about 320,000 National Youths Service Corps members for National Health Insurance Scheme yearly.

At the meeting headed by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, the FEC also approved the completion of an abandoned projects, Garri irrigation, in Kano and Jigawa states, which had reached 50 per cent completion.
