The leading opposition party of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed its readiness to take back the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, if he decides to come back to the party.
According to the Chairman of the Board of Trustee of PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin’s statement on Monday, the party is hale and hearty and urged Obasanjo to rethink about his decision.
Obasanjo had denounced membership of the party, severally de-marketing the party that brought him to presidency seat twice, and also saying he would rather be a non-partisan member and statesman of the society.
PDP pleas to the former president came as a result of Obasanjo’s statement that the party is was gasping for breath over the meeting with leaders of the party in recent media reports.
Jibrin, while referring to the former president said the party is alive contrary to what is opined on the pages of newspapers. He added that the party Obasanjo is both wishing the party is dead and would not come back.
He however said the party is ready to receive the former president back is he changes his mind. “Such people should change their minds. If he comes back to this party, we are ready to receive him.”
The BoT Chairman also pursue means to finding solution to the face-off with its former national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff while inaugurating the 18th-member peace committee presided by Prof. Jerry Gana.
Jibrin gave Prof. Gana 7 days to complete the assignment, and subsequently submit to the party the report.
