Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has pledged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will do everything in its power to reform the party and rebuild Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the inauguration of the Board of Governors and the unveiling of the roadmap for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Makinde emphasized the party’s commitment to delivering real hope for the nation.
The PDP, established in 2000 as the PDP’s research and training arm, promotes democratic values in Nigeria and Africa through educational, capacity-building, and research initiatives. Makinde highlighted the institute’s revitalization as a pivotal step toward addressing Nigeria’s challenges, stating, “We will fix PDP, and then PDP will fix Nigeria. As we look toward 2027, PDP must be the beacon of hope.”
Makinde also urged PDP leaders to unite ahead of the upcoming November 16 Ondo State governorship election, stressing that true reconciliation and unity are essential for challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He advised that leaders prioritize PDP’s core ideologies over individual ambitions, aligning with the words of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, who said, “We must focus on what the PDP represents—ideas, philosophy, and policies, not personal ambitions.”
Taofeek Arapaja, the PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), and newly appointed Chairman of the PDI Board of Governors, pledged to lead the institute with transparency, inclusivity, and innovation. He emphasized the PDP’s role as a “hub for progressive thought, skills development, and intellectual discourse” to engage youth, women, and all party members.
PDP Director General Dr. Edward Adie echoed these sentiments, acknowledging Makinde’s support and emphasizing the importance of adequate funding and resources for the institute’s mission. He noted that research and training through institutions like the PDI are critical for the party’s success and Nigeria’s democratic progress.
