- APC Chairman Blames Peter Obi for Online Attacks
- Morka Accuses Obi’s Supporters of Threatening His Life
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has voiced his support for the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following allegations of incitement and death threats against him.
Ganduje dismissed claims by Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of misleading the public and inciting online harassment of Morka. In a statement released in Abuja, Ganduje criticized Obi’s remarks as inflammatory, asserting that they fueled attacks on the APC spokesperson.
The controversy stems from Morka’s comments during a Sunday interview on Arise Television, where he accused Obi of “crossing the line” in his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Morka’s remarks triggered backlash, with Obi responding on Twitter, questioning whether holding the government accountable constituted crossing the line.
On Wednesday, Morka claimed Obi’s allegations had led to over 400 threats against him, including 200 explicit death threats.
“In these messages, individuals have detailed plans to harm me, including shooting and beheading me,” Morka stated. “These threats extend to my family and are not mere rhetoric. I will be submitting all evidence to law enforcement agencies.”
Ganduje defended Morka, asserting that his remarks were taken out of context.
“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libelled him and incited an online mob,” Ganduje said. “Morka’s comments were strictly in response to a question about ‘prophets of doom’ and ‘voodoo economics.’ Nothing in his statement constituted a threat to Obi or anyone else.”
The APC chairman further declared the party’s resolve to counter what he described as baseless allegations against the Tinubu-led administration, stating, “We will not allow the opposition to spread falsehoods unchecked.”
