Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1.The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Cross River State has warned the state government against its plan to commence a trial resumption of schools is some states. NMA, in a press release signed by its Chairman, Dr Agam Ayuk and the Secretary, Dr Ezoke Epoke on Saturday in Calabar, said the declaration by the state government on a trial resumption of three public schools is alarming. The Association maintained that the quick resumption of schools, despite genuine reasons, has the potential of significant disease outbreak among students.

2.Controversies have continued to trail the gunshots fired inside the Presidential Villa Abuja when First Lady, Aisha Buhari, members of her immediate family and her Aide-de-camp, Usman Shugaba allegedly attempted to force Sabiu Yusuf, a Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari into self-isolation. Nigerians are divided on the matter. While majority have blamed Aisha, some have seen nothing wrong with her action. More controversial is the arrest of her aides.

3.The Screening Appeal Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, upheld the disqualification of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from the party’s primary. The decision followed a review of a report submitted by the party’s screening committee. Chairman of the appeal panel, Dr. Abubakar Fari, who submitted the committee’s report to the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee, also revealed that only one out of the three disqualified aspirants appealed the decision.

4.A student of the Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Grace Oshiagwu was raped and murdered within a church mission building, located at Idi-Ori, Sasa-Ojoo, in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State on Saturday. Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the killing.

5.501 COVID-19 cases were on Saturday recorded in Nigeria. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, announced the figure on Saturday night. It said Lagos State recorded 195 while Abuja followed with 50. Currently, the country has a total of 15682 confirmed cases of the infection and 407 deaths.

6.About 269 Nigerians who were stranded in India arrived Lagos and Abuja on Saturday. The Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), announced their arrival on its Twitter page. The commission disclosed that the returnees arrived in Nigeria at 2:00 a.m and were received from India at the Lagos and Abuja airports.

7.The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has disregarded the demand by the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, to release her aides who are in police net over the shooting in the villa. According to reports, the aides were still in police custody till 4pm of Saturday.

8.The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has reeled out new guidelines to churches and mosques, advising them to keep toilets and sales centers closed during religious activities. The guideline posted on its website also stopped children and the sick from attending services.

9.The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday said it’s alarmed by the reported shooting and security breaches within the precincts of the Presidential Villa, following a reported degenerated squabble among family members and officials of the President Muhammadu Buhari Presidency. PDP expressed worry that the protracted disagreement between the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and aides of Buhari has now degenerated into violent combats, raids and free use of firearms within the Presidential villa.

10.One person was confirmed killed and five others injured after a vehicle conveying some soldiers rammed into a hilux in the convoy of members of Borno State COVID-19 Committee in Maiduguri. The COVID-19 team, had the Attorney General, Kakashehu Lawan, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr Salisu Kwaya-Bura, with them when the incident happened on Saturday.
