Kano State government has cancelled the annual traditional Sallah event known as, Hawan Nassarawa, slated for tomorrow Thursday 6th June, 2019, for security reasons.
A statement on Wednesday night by Malam Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kano State, explained that after security meeting that was held between Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje with all the security agencies, concerning all Sallah celebrations, as it is usually done, there was intelligence report for the fear of breach of peace during the upcoming event.
2.The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to apologize to the residents of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for branding them ‘necessary evil’ because they did not vote for him in the February 23 Presidential election.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, at a press briefing on Wednesday, said the President must apologize to FCT residents.
3.The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari won the 2019 Nigeria presidential election without advantage to himself.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a statement on Wednesday, said that despite some 2019 election losses recorded in some states, the APC has improved significantly on the result of 2015 under the leadership of Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman.
4.Bandits were said to have allegedly killed 16 persons in Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara on Sallah day.
Confirming the attack in Gusau on Wednesday, the Director-General on Media to the state governor, Yusuf Idris, said “the governor visited the community and sympathised with them”.
5.The striking members of the Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) have called off their two-month-long industrial action after meeting with the state Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.
The doctors who are in the employment of the state government had embarked on industrial action in April following the non-implementation of the agreement reached with the immediate past administration headed by Owelle Rocha Okorocha on increased funding for the health sector, full payment of their salaries, as well as the payment of their three-months arrears.
6.The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has been asked to determine whether President Muhammadu Buhari supplied false information about his educational qualification and certificates, in the Form CF001 he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, before the 2019 general elections.
The appellate court in an appeal marked CA/A/436/2019, was further urged to determine whether the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, is competent to file processes to defend the allegation that President Buhari lied on oath about his qualifications.
7.Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has condemned the conduct of troops caught on video maltreating some suspected bandits and kidnappers arrested along the Kaduna-Abuja road.
Acting Director Defence information, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Wednesday, said the Chief of Defence Staff has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident
8.Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the aides of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who are still in possession of government vehicles to return same or risk arrests.
The Governor said that the former state officials must comply with the directives on the return of state assets in their custody.
9.Popular Nigerian Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie survived a ghastly motor accident along Ore road on Tuesday.
Yul, who is a son to one of Nigeria’s most popular Nollywood actors, Pete Edochie, said he was heading to the east, just before Ore when he lost control of his vehicle and started veering off to the right until he landed in a gutter and sustained bruises.
10.Former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has called on his successor, Emeka Ihedioha to appreciate the fact that he is a civilian Governor and not a military administrator and should minimise his rate of giving ultimatums and issuing threats.
Okorocha said Ihedioha was only preparing the grounds towards squandering the N42.5 billion he, Okorocha, left in the State government account.
