1.The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Friday accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of conniving with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the July 14 governorship election in the State by, “Using students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) as INEC ad-hoc staff for the election, instead of youth corps members.” Fayose alleged that the Vice Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof Kayode Soremekun, was a card carrying member of the APC and a close ally of the party’s candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

2.The Supreme Court, on Friday, gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the go-ahead to prosecute former Managing Director of the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc, Dr. Erastus Akingbola over his alleged involvement in N5 billion fraud.The court in a unanimous judgement by a five-man panel of justices, ordered Akingbola to return to the Federal High Court in Lagos to face charges against him as his appeal lacked merit.

3.A Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo state, has ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) to refrain from conducting Saturday’s state congress or any other congress in Imo State, pending the determination of a suit filed by Barrister Mbagwu Augustine and four others against the APC and 10 others. The order was served on the APC late Friday. The court, presided over by Justice A. Lewis Allagoa ordered that the respondents should to appear in court on the next adjourned date to show cause why the order should not be granted.

4.The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday berated governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over their reported plan to sack school teachers and other workers, after the 2019 general election. PDP made the remark in reaction to the revelation by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who said some teachers and workers will be sacked after the 2019 election. In its reaction, the former ruling party described the alleged plot as “wicked.”

5.Respite has now come the way of Senator Magnus Abe as the All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced the cancellation of the Ward and Local government congresses held in Rivers State. The party in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said it cancelled the congresses following complaints from some leaders of the party in the state.

6.A Boeing 737 airliner from Cuba’s state airline, Cubana de Aviacion, Friday crashed and exploded near Jose Marti International Airport in Havana. The plane came down shortly after take-off. The plane which was flying from the Cuban capital to Holguin, in the east of the island was carrying 104 passengers. No specific details of casualties figure yet.

7.The Naira on Friday depreciated against the dollar at the parallel market in Lagos.
Report says that the Nigerian currency lost one point to exchange at N363, weaker than N362 posted on Thursday, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N496 and N429, respectively. At the Bureau De Change segment, the Naira closed at N361.50 to the dollar, while it exchanged at N502 and N428 to the Pound Sterling and Euro, respectively.

8.The Nigerian Army on Friday said allegations leveled against it by retired Gen. T.Y Danjuma that it refused to protect the people of Taraba State were untrue. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, made this known at a news conference in Abuja where he gave details of the findings of the 10-member panel the Army constituted to probe the allegations.

9.The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has taken over Sea Petroleum Oil and Gas Limited and other assets belonging the Senator representing Anambra North, Stella Oduah, over inability to clear her N20 billion debt. AMCON explained that the takeover followed an injunction granted by M.S. Hassan of Lagos Federal High Court, after efforts to reach a settlement failed.

10.The Christian Association of Nigeria has warned that there may be religious war in Nigeria should Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi Christian girl still being held by Boko Haram dies in captivity. The Special Assistant on Media and Communications to CAN President, Adebayo Oladeji in a statement on Friday warned that Sharibu’s death could spell doom for the country as she was being detained because of her religious inclination.
