1.Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof Kolapo Olusola, on Tuesday emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the July 14 governorship election.

The stepping down of Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujimi could not salvage the situation, as Olusola garnered 1,190 votes to defeat his close rival and former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who polled of 771 votes.

2.President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Senior lawyer, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and six others as members of the board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC.

The six other nominees include Olabode Akeem Mustapha (chairman, Ogun state), Garba Buba (Bauchi state), Bello Garba (Sokoto state), Joseph OJ Okalogu (Enugustate), Mustapha Adewale Mudashiru (Kwara state) and Adewale Adeleke (Ondo state).

3.President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday departed Abuja for London, the United Kingdom on yet another medical trip.

Buhari was accompanied to the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by some top government officials and presidential aides.

4.The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken a swipe at the Presidency for allegedly keeping the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari in secrecy, saying that his trip, yesterday, to the United Kingdom to see his doctors was an indication that he was not fit to effectively preside over the affairs of the Nigerian state.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, also drew the attention of the world to what it termed the unabating violations of human rights across the country by the current administration.

5.The Nigerian Army has arrested five men at Tse-Dum, in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The men, John Yobeh, Person Nyaku, Agbo Kume, Thomas Adum and Faaga Uereyev, were reportedly arrested with two AK-47 rifles and live ammunition.

The spokesman of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, told newsmen on Tuesday that the primary election will hold on Friday, May 11 2018 and would still be conducted by the Governor Tanko Al- Makura led Committee.

7.Akeem Yekini, younger brother to late Super Eagles player, Rashidi Yekini is dead.

Jubril Mohamed, the lawyer to the late Yekini, said Akeem died in Kwara State six years after the demise of his elder brother, Rashidi.

8.A multi-billionaire Kano businessman and leader of Tijjaniya Movement in Africa, Sheik Isyaka Rabiu is dead.

Sheikh Isiyaku reportedly passed away after a brief illness in the United Kingdom at the age of 90, according to his son, Alhaji Abdulmalik Isyaku Rabiu.

9.Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed that Nigeria needs not less than N46 billion dollars (about N16.56 trillion) to construct its three major speed rail lines.

According to him, the three speed rail line projects – Lagos to Kano, Lagos to Calabar and Port Harcourt to Maiduguri – were crucial to the administration of President Muhammadu.

10.Seventeen Nigerian migrants who survived a deadly sea crossing last year have filed a lawsuit against Italy for violating their rights by supporting Libya’s efforts to return them to North Africa, their lawyers said on Tuesday.

The migrants said Italy violated multiple articles of the European Convention on Human Rights, including that people should not be subjected to torture, held in slavery, or have their lives put in danger.
