In the face of palpable economic downturn, the Federal Government has insisted that it has created millions of jobs for the citizen, across different sectors of the economy.
It noted that about 7 million jobs were created in the agriculture sector alone since the present administration came to power in 2015, that “about five million farmers were engaged in rice production.”
This was the submission of the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, during the 6th graduation ceremony of Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), founded by former Rivers First Lady, Dame Judith Amaechi, in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
He added: “Thanks to the administration’s Anchor Borrowers Programme, the number of farmers engaged in rice production today stands at 12.2 million. These are verifiable facts, not fiction.
“In the Power, Works and Housing sector, 69,736 jobs have been created, while the administration’s National Social Investment Programmes have created at least 200,000 jobs, in addition to empowering 500,000 others under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, GEEP.
Speaking further, the minister noted that the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing had created 69,736 jobs (direct and indirect) across the country, adding that the Power Sector projects created 1,740 jobs, the Works Sector created 38,391 jobs while the Housing Sector created 29,605 jobs.
Meanwhile, FELLOW PRESS reported that more than 4 million jobs were lost in the year 2017 according to statistics from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics.
