Benue Killing: Gov Ortom escapes mob descending on him

Protesters in their thousands stormed streets of Makurdi, Benue capital yesterday, protesting the killing of over 50 persons in connection with herdmen invasion in the community.

The charged mob attempted to descend on Governor Samuel Ortom as he arrived in the company of the State Executive Council, when they tried to pacify the protesters.

The governor told them to remain calm, that President Muhammadu Buhari had promised to intervene in the issue.

But the angry youths rather demanded the President to address the Benue community over the killings, and started throwing stones and sticks when the governor prevail on them to show understanding.

It was the help of security operatives that Ortom escaped safely the scene.

The protesters also said the President should address the menace immediately or resign.

Meanwhile, FELLOW PRESS reported of attack on some church in Ilorin on the New Year’s eve, allegedly committed by some Muslim faithful, to which the Police, Kwara Command reacted that they would investigate and punish the culprit accordingly.
