FG Declares Public Holidays for Christmas, New Year Celebrations

The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, along with Wednesday, January 1, 2025, will be public holidays in celebration of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year.

The announcement, made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was delivered on Monday morning on behalf of the federal government. He extended heartfelt greetings to all Nigerians, encouraging them to use this festive period to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the season represents.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister highlighted the significance of the season as a time to nurture harmony and strengthen relationships within families and communities.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also expressed his warm wishes to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, emphasizing the importance of emulating the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. His call to action was for Nigerians to embrace humility, service, compassion, and patience, which form the core of the Christmas spirit.

The Minister underscored that peace and security are essential for driving economic growth and national prosperity. He reassured citizens that the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, remains committed to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians and their properties.

In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, advising them to report any suspicious activities to security agencies, particularly during the festive season. He stressed the importance of community discipline in safeguarding lives and property.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Minister called on citizens to remain optimistic about the future, expressing confidence that the New Year would usher in even greater prosperity through the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“The Christmas season offers a unique opportunity for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and goodwill to all, regardless of our differences,” he said.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo concluded by assuring Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace, security, and prosperity, wishing all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. He expressed his firm belief in the Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria in 2025.
