- El-Rufai Still Loyal to APC, Says Sule
- Ministerial Rejection Not Forum’s Concern
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has clarified that the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) had no role in the Senate’s rejection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a ministerial nominee.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Sule emphasized that the decision to reject El-Rufai was beyond the forum’s purview.
“What led to his nomination or rejection by the Senate or security agencies are not issues we discussed, either at the Progressives Governors’ Forum or the Nigeria Governors’ Forum,” Sule explained. “These matters fall under the prerogative of the president and the relevant agencies.”
El-Rufai, who was instrumental in rallying support for President Bola Tinubu during the APC primaries and general elections, was nominated for a ministerial position three months after Tinubu’s inauguration. However, his nomination was rejected by the Senate during screening, reportedly due to security concerns.
Governor Sule also reaffirmed that El-Rufai remains loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “El-Rufai has not left our party; he is still part of us,” Sule stated.
El-Rufai’s rejection has sparked debates about internal party politics and his future role within the APC. Despite the setback, party members and analysts alike continue to assess the broader implications of the Senate’s decision.
