…Ex-Petroleum Minister Challenges EFCC Over Alleged Lack of Fair Hearing in Forfeiture Process
Former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has filed a motion to amend her legal challenge against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the final forfeiture of her seized assets. The case is being heard by Justice Inyang Ekwo at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
During the resumed hearing, no legal representative appeared on behalf of the EFCC. Justice Ekwo queried Alison-Madueke’s counsel about receiving submissions from the EFCC, to which the lawyer confirmed receipt.
The counsel informed the court that a motion to amend their originating processes had been filed and duly served to the EFCC. Justice Ekwo subsequently adjourned the case to February 17, 2025, for the hearing of the motion.
Alison-Madueke has also requested an extension of time to apply for an order to set aside the EFCC’s public notice announcing the sale of her properties. She claims she was denied a fair hearing during the proceedings that led to the sale order.
In response, the EFCC has dismissed her claims, asserting that her affidavit contains falsehoods. According to the anti-graft agency, the cases leading to the forfeiture were adjudicated at various times and determined by competent courts.
