Even Democrats pushing for Biden’s departure admit they have created a scenario where he cannot meet the “tests” set by skeptics. Illinois Senator Dick Durbin’s suggestion to “put him in a muscle shirt, like Reagan chopping wood,” exemplifies the increasingly desperate attempts to reshape Biden’s image.

Within Biden’s team, there’s a growing sense of inevitability. “There’s a growing sense that it’s game over,” said one Biden aide. Many aides are merely going through the motions, anticipating Biden’s inevitable exit.
