Defence Minister, Service Chiefs Visit Family of Late Army Chief Lagbaja to Offer Condolences

On Thursday, the Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru, along with Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, led senior service chiefs on a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, in Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu had announced Lagbaja’s passing on Wednesday in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, the 23rd Chief of Army Staff, died at the age of 56 after a brief illness.

Among the officials present were Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Kana. The delegation was received by Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, at the Flag Staff House, the official residence of the COAS at Nigerian Barracks in Abuja.

Each member of the delegation signed the condolence register, expressing their personal tributes and messages of support for the late COAS’s family.
