- Recruitment aimed at boosting border security and creating employment.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to recruit 3,927 officers to enhance trade facilitation and border security across the nation.
This decision was approved during the NCS Board’s 61st quarterly meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun, in Abuja. The recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Service’s capacity to meet its operational objectives and support national economic growth.
Minister Edun commended the NCS for its remarkable performance in revenue generation, revealing that the Service had already amassed over ₦5 trillion by November 2024. He noted that this achievement aligns with the government’s ₦35 trillion revenue target for 2025 and reflects the impact of reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The NCS has excelled in suppressing smuggling and fostering trade, essential for economic growth and job creation,” Edun stated.
The recruitment exercise is also seen as a significant opportunity to engage young Nigerians in nation-building. It aligns with the federal government’s ₦48 trillion expenditure target for 2025, aimed at economic recovery and sustainable development.
While the specifics of the recruitment timeline are yet to be disclosed, the NCS assures that it will provide further details in due course.
This initiative underscores the Service’s commitment to enhancing national security, boosting trade, and driving economic progress.
