Court Orders Arrest of Mercy Chinwo’s Manager Over Alleged $345,000 Fraud

Date:

  • EFCC Accuses Manager of Diverting Royalties Without Transparency
  • Court Sets January 24 for Manager’s Appearance Amid Warrant Issuance

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo, over allegations of financial misconduct.

Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the arrest warrant on Thursday, January 16, following an ex parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

During the session, EFCC counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari urged the court to approve the application under provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. The request sought to compel Onyedikachukwu’s appearance in court to face charges of criminal misconduct.

According to an affidavit presented by EFCC investigator Michael Idoko, Mercy Chinwo had filed a complaint against her manager, accusing him of withholding information regarding royalties earned from her digital platforms and live performances. The affidavit further alleged that Onyedikachukwu misappropriated $345,000, failing to share her entitled portion.

Mrs. Buhari informed the court that multiple attempts to apprehend Onyedikachukwu had been unsuccessful, prompting the need for an arrest warrant. She also noted that a public summons would be issued if the manager remains untraceable.

Justice Owoeye approved the EFCC’s application and scheduled January 24 as the date for Onyedikachukwu’s court appearance.
