Corps members under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have received their first increased monthly allowance of N33,000.
A cross-section of Nigerians have reacted to the increase in the monthly allowance of Youth Corps members as Federal government begins payment on Friday.
The Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim had on Wednesday disclosed the new figures as increased by the Federal Government, from N19,800 to N33,000.
The Director had confirmed that the sum of thirty-three thousand naira was approved for the Corps members in line with the new National Minimum Wage review.
Reacting to the new development, some Nigerians commended the Federal government for putting smiles on the faces of corps members, some hilariously asked if they could serve again while others asked if there will be arrears for old corp members.

Created in May 22, 1973 as a scheme by the Nigerian government to engage its graduates in nation building, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has being a compulsory one-year programme.
NYSC allowance to its corps members were last increased in March 2011 from N9775 to N19,800 during the then-President Goodluck Jonathan, while preparing for general elections. The era marked beginning of deploying Corps members as ad hoc election officers both for voter registration and the election.
Since then there have been speculations allowances will leap once federal salaries receive boost, even as some had called for as much as N50,000 for corps members allowances in a country when many states are yet to implement N30,000 minimum wage.
