Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver involved in a recent dispute with Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member representing Aba North/South in Abia State, has issued a public apology.
The altercation occurred while Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Ikwechegh, resulting in a confrontation that drew public attention.
In a video statement, Abuwatseya expressed remorse, asking Nigerians to move forward together in unity.
“Good day, Nigerians. My name is Stephen Abuwatseya. I had a misunderstanding with Rt. Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh a few days ago. I want to apologize for any actions or words that may have provoked him. It’s not time to divide ourselves by religion, tribe, or region; we should come together to unite this nation.”
He continued, emphasizing forgiveness. “Please, Nigerians, let’s forgive and forget. As it’s in our Lord’s Prayer, ‘forgive us, as we forgive those who trespass against us.’ There is no justice without forgiveness.”
Abuwatseya also expressed gratitude to his family and supporters, saying, “Thank you to my family, my parents, my brothers, my uncles, and everyone who stood by me. God bless Nigeria.”
This apology follows a statement from Ikwechegh, who also expressed regret over his role in the dispute. The lawmaker took to Instagram to apologize to Abuwatseya, the Nigerian Police, and the National Assembly, acknowledging that his behavior did not meet the standards expected of a public official.
Ikwechegh further explained that the two had reached a “mutual and respectful agreement” through alternative dispute resolution, resolving the issue amicably.
