In a landmark decision to improve the welfare of workers, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has approved a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for state employees. This development follows extensive consultations with organized labour to address pressing concerns about workers’ livelihoods.

Announcing the decision, Governor Alia highlighted his administration’s dedication to empowering the workforce that drives the state’s progress.

“Our aim is to empower the men and women who keep our state moving forward,” the governor stated. He further assured workers that outstanding arrears would be addressed, starting this November, in line with the state’s budget.

The announcement underscores the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of public sector employees, as Governor Alia emphasized the importance of rewarding workers for their contributions to the state’s development.

“We want every worker in Benue to know that we are here for you. Your labour will be rewarded, your needs will be met, and your concerns addressed,” the governor affirmed.

This move has been widely lauded by organized labour unions, with many expressing optimism that the new wage policy and arrears payment will ease economic challenges for workers and their families.
