APC Spokesman Alleges 400 Death Threats Over Comments About Peter Obi

Date:

  • Felix Morka claims explicit threats target him and his family amid political tensions.
  • Labour Party demands apology over remarks deemed inflammatory.

The political climate in Nigeria grew tenser on Wednesday as Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealed he and his family have been inundated with death threats. Morka linked the threats to comments he made during a Sunday interview on Arise Television regarding Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Morka alleged that Obi’s subsequent claims that his remarks constituted a threat to Obi’s life had incited a wave of hostility, culminating in over 400 threats, including 200 explicit death threats.

“Peter Obi’s allegations that my words in that interview threatened his life have triggered serious consequences,” Morka said during a follow-up appearance on Arise News. “These threats are not vague insinuations. Individuals have detailed plans to harm me—threatening to shoot, behead, or otherwise harm me. Some of these threats even extend to my family.”

The APC spokesman strongly denied Obi’s accusations, describing them as unfounded. “I categorically deny making any statements that could be construed as threatening Peter Obi’s life. This situation is baseless and entirely divorced from my comments,” Morka said.

He confirmed that all documented threats would be submitted to law enforcement for investigation, expressing confidence in their ability to ensure accountability.

The controversy stems from Morka’s initial remarks in which he accused Obi of “crossing the line” in his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, adding that the LP candidate “deserved whatever came his way.”

The comments sparked widespread backlash, with former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar condemning the language as “inflammatory and disgraceful.”

In a separate statement, the Labour Party issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Tinubu, demanding disciplinary action against Morka. Marcel Ngogbehei, Director-General of the LP Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration, accused the APC of orchestrating a targeted campaign against Obi.

As tensions escalate, the incident underscores the volatile nature of Nigeria’s political discourse and raises concerns about the safety of political figures and their families in an increasingly polarized environment.
